Elaïnos is Cornell University’s first undergraduate Classics journal. We publish original research in the classical field, including but not limited to Literature, History, Art, Linguistics, Philosophy, and translations of Ancient Greek or Latin texts.
Who We Are
Accepting pieces for publication in our Fall and Spring semester issues. Each submission is initially reviewed by the editor-in-chief, then anonymized and evaluated by our editorial board, which provides careful feedback and makes publication decisions.

Our inaugural issue of Elaïnos features incredible pieces, all by Cornell undergraduates, on topics ranging from the reception of classical themes in French Art to imperialism in the Ancient World, translations of Homer and Lucan, and more.

Submissions are open to all Cornell undergraduate students, regardless of major or college. We especially welcome work from those with a passion for the ancient world.

We publish research papers, translations, original creative writing (inspired by the ancient world), artwork, and essays that engage with classical themes. All work must relate in some way to the ancient world—its languages, literature, history, philosophy, archaeology, or reception.

Not necessarily! While we accept formal academic papers, we also encourage creative approaches to classical subjects, including personal essays, poetry, short stories, and visual art.

Research essays should not be much longer than 15 pages double-spaced. If your submission is significantly longer or shorter, feel free to reach out before submitting.

Yes, you may submit multiple works, either in the same genre or across categories. Please submit each work as a separate file with its own title.

Our journal is published using the Chicago style for citations. All submissions must include a complete bibliography when appropriate. We greatly appreciate if submissions contain footnotes, but will convert in-text citations to footnotes when necessary.
